SRINAGAR, Aug 21: Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, inaugurated the Annual Inter-College Athletic Meet 2025 at the University of Kashmir, commending the participation of over 500 athletes from 25 colleges.
Organised by the Directorate of Physical Education & Sports (DPES), the three-day event features 20+ track and field competitions. Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony, Khadse praised the athletes’ enthusiasm and said, “The youth of Kashmir are inspiring the nation and will help shape a Viksit Bharat.”
KU Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan emphasized sports as central to the university’s vision. Other dignitaries included Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Prof. Imtiyaz Khan, Dr. Ashfaq Zarri and Dr. Surjeet Singh.
In the Men’s Javelin Throw event, Nadeem Ahmad from GCOPE Ganderbal clinched the Gold medal, followed by Mehran from GDC Ganderbal who secured Silver, while Rayees from GDC Shopian took home the Bronze. In the Women’s Long Jump category, Shah Seerat from GDC Sopore emerged victorious with the Gold medal, Masrat from Women’s College Baramulla earned the Silver and Saba from GCOPE Ganderbal finished with the Bronze. Meanwhile, in the Men’s Long Jump event, Sahil from GDC Shopian claimed the Gold, Sajid Ali from GCOPE Ganderbal secured the Silver, and Mohd Athar from GDC Sopore bagged the Bronze medal.
