KUPWARA, July 23: The 6th District Kupwara Pencak Silat Championship 2025 commenced at the Indoor Sports Hall, Handwara, here today, with a vibrant and inspiring opening ceremony. The event was inaugurated by Professor G.R. Ganaie, Principal, Government Degree College Handwara, who praised the sport’s role in building discipline, strength, and character among youth. He lauded the efforts of the District Kupwara Pencak Silat Association for organizing such a meaningful event.
Zahoor Ahmad, Deputy Manager of the Indoor Sports Hall, attended as guest of honour and highlighted the growing popularity of Pencak Silat in the region, pledging full support for future sports development.
A special moment was the presence of Aadil Manzoor Peer, International Medalist, who shared motivating words with the participants, encouraging them to train hard and aim high.
Over 200 players, both boys and girls from across the district, representing schools, clubs, and academies, are competing in various age and weight categories. The championship is held under the banner of the Pencak Silat Association of J&K, recognized by the J&K Sports Council and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
