SRINAGAR, July 21: The three-day Asmita Pencak Silat League 2025 concluded at Indoor Stadium, Polo Ground, here today. Organized under the Khelo India initiative, the event, witnessed enthusiastic participation of over 500 female athletes from across Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to empower women through martial arts.
The league served as a dynamic platform to promote sporting excellence, encourage grassroots participation, and highlight the growing role of women in competitive sports. In a heartwarming gesture, the award ceremony was conducted by the mothers of participating athletes, symbolizing the crucial role of women as pillars of support in the sports ecosystem.
Officials from the J&K Sports Council highlighted the league’s success as a major step toward making Kashmir a hub for national and international sports. Building on this momentum, Srinagar will host the Asian Junior Pencak Silat Championship from September 25 to 30, 2025, featuring athletes from over 15 countries.
To further develop local talent, the Pencak Silat Association of J&K will conduct selection trials for the 9th Pencak Silat Federation Cup 2025 on July 29 at the same venue. These trials are open to junior and senior athletes across various categories.
Additionally, the Open Kashmir Pencak Silat Championship is scheduled for August 7-8, offering more opportunities for athletes to compete and showcase their skills, further strengthening the region’s martial arts culture.
