
Sgr to host Asian Jr. Pencak Silat C’ship from Sept 25: Gul

SRINAGAR, July 19: The Asmita Pencak Silat League 2025 kicked off today at the Indoor Stadium, Polo Ground, Srinagar, under the Khelo India initiative, showcasing the talent of over 500 female athletes from across Jammu and Kashmir. The three-day event, held from July 19 to 21, is organized by the Pencak Silat Association of J&K under the aegis of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and J&K Sports Council.
The opening ceremony featured a powerful demonstration of Pencak Silat techniques. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, inaugurated the event, stressing the need to increase women’s participation in sports and highlighting the sport’s growing popularity. She also announced that Srinagar will host the Asian Junior Pencak Silat Championship from September 25 to 30, welcoming athletes from over 15 countries. Mamta Shree Ojha, Director, Khelo India Games (SAI), praised the organizers and the enthusiastic support from the host state.
Other dignitaries present at the event included Abhinav Sharma, Deputy Director, Khelo India Games; Aman Sharma, High Performance Director, SAI and Gopal Kandpal, Joint Commissioner.
