Rajiv sensitises APS Damana Staff on Child Protection Laws

JAMMU, June 27: Rajiv Khajuria, Founder and Honorary Patron of the National Development Foundation (NDF) and Member of the Selection Committee under the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Rules, J&K Government, delivered a special lecture at Army Public School (APS) Damana on child protection laws. The session focused on the Juvenile Justice Act, POCSO Act, Child Labour Act, and the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.
Around 100 teachers attended the interactive session, along with Principal Pushpinder Kaur, Vice Principal Shalu Kapoor and Headmistress Anurita Koul. Madhur Uppal presented the welcome address, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Vice Principal Shalu Kapoor. NDF representatives Nisha Pandita, Aman Sharma and Sahil Singh were also present.
Khajuria emphasised the legal responsibilities of school staff under Section 19 of the POCSO Act and warned about the consequences of non-reporting under Section 21. He also explained key provisions of the JJ and RTE Acts, urging educators to ensure child-friendly practices. He appreciated APS Damana for implementing all necessary committees and child protection mechanisms and also sensitised staff on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The session concluded with a Q&A round addressing staff queries.
