Bareena misses gold, bags silver, promising Boxer title

JAMMU, June 25: Despite a valiant effort in the final bout, Jammu and Kashmir’s young boxing sensation Bareena from Srinagar settled for a silver medal in the 6th Junior Boys and Girls National Boxing Championship, which concluded today in Rohtak, Haryana.
Competing in the 66-70 kg weight category, Bareena fought a spirited match against Haryana’s Priyanshi Sherwat in the finals but narrowly missed the gold. Her performance, however, earned her the prestigious Best Promising Boxer of the Tournament award – a testament to her rising stature in Indian boxing. She was honoured with a trophy by the event dignitaries.
A total of 19 boxers represented J&K in the national championship, with Bareena emerging as a standout performer. Trained under the guidance of Farooq Ahmad, a seasoned boxing coach posted at the Indoor Sports Complex, Bakshi Stadium Srinagar, Bareena has been steadily building her career. Farooq has mentored several medal-winning boxers from the Union Territory.
