J&K defeats Goa by 73 runs in Dev Bhoomi Gold Cup cricket tourney

JAMMU, May 31: In a dominating performance, Jammu & Kashmir began their campaign with a comprehensive 73-run victory over Goa in the ongoing Dev Bhoomi Gold Cup Cricket Tournament at Ayush Cricket Academy ground, Dehradun.
Batting first, J&K posted a competitive total of 311 runs in 50 overs. Yawer Hassan played a fluent knock of 61 off 51 balls (9 fours, 2 sixes), while skipper Shubham Singh Pundir scored 57 off 67 (4 fours, 2 sixes). Support came from Kanhaiya Wadhawan (37), Abid Mushtaq (36), Qamran Iqbal (24), Sahil Lotra (24), Nasir Lone (23), Vanshaj Sharma (12) and Auqib Nabi (11).
For Goa, Heramb Parab and Felix Alemao took 3 wickets each, while Darshan Misal claimed 2. Shubham Tari and Deepraj Gaonkar shared a wicket apiece. In response, Goa managed 238 runs in 41 overs. Ishan Gadekar top-scored with 66 off 40 balls (10 fours, 2 sixes), while Kashyap Bakle (54) and Aryan Narvekar (51) also made fifties.
J&K’s bowling was led by Vanshaj Sharma and Abid Mushtaq with 2 & 3 wickets respectively. Auqib Nabi and Sunil Kumar took 2 wickets each, while Sahil Lotra chipped in with one. Abid Mushtaq was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance. J&K Coach Ajay Sharma, a former international cricketer, was honoured by the organisers.
Brig Anil Gupta (Member Administration, JKCA) and Mithun Manhas (Member Cricket Operations, JKCA) congratulated the team. J&K will face Himachal Pradesh next on June 2 at the same venue.
