Manikandan Kumar wins Silver medal in the Paraclimbing World Cup in USA

KOLKATA, May 22: India’s Manikandan Kumar has made the country proud when he clinched a silver medal in the ongoing Para Climbing World Cup in Salt Lake City, USA, the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) said here on Thursday.

Thirty-nine-year-old Polio survivor Manikandan Kumar representing the IMF, country’s mountain and adventure sport climbing regulatory body, has won the silver medal in the RP2 category at the Para Climbing World Cup in Salt Lake City, USA.

” This achievement marks a strong start to the season,” IMF’s eastern region Chairman Debraj Dutta said in a statement.

The IMF also conveyed its best wishes for more success and achievements ahead of the athlete from Bangalore. Kumar had won a gold medal in Men’s RP2 category at the IFSC Para Climbing World Cup in Arco, Italy, in 2024, 11 years after he won silver in the same competition.

In the Salt Lake City Para Climbing World Cup, some 20 nations from all five continents have made it to the podium so far. The USA placing first with 14 total medals, and France followed in second, thanks to four golds out of five total podiums. Japan completed the top three with three golds, three silvers, and one bronze, and India with a silver medal.
