JAMMU, May 5: Mohd Tariq of Amba Kids Home, Panthal (Katra) won the Sub Junior Boys title of the Reasi District Sport Climbing Championship which concluded at Sprawling Buds School, Bantalab, here today.
In a tough and close contest among 17 very talented climbers, Mohd Tariq emerged victorious by climbing a hold higher than Soham Parihar who secured the silver medal. Shakeel also climbed well to clinch a bronze medal.
Similarly, in the Sub Junior Girls category, there was good contest among the budding climbers especially between Alina, Saima and Maryam in which Alina secured the first position. Silver and Bronze medals in this category were bagged by Saima and Maryam.
In the Mini Boys category, Nitish Singh clinched the Gold medal by topping the 40 ft high fibre glass wall. Afraz also did well to claim the silver medal. The bronze medal in this category was clinched by Prince Kumar.
There was an interesting contest in the Mini Girls category in which all the 17 participants were fresh and competing in a competition for the first time. However, Manvi, Alia and Anmol secured the first three positions, respectively.
There were only two contestants in the Junior Girls category and only one in the Junior Boys category who climbed well to earn consolation medals.
In the valedictory function, Rahul Sharma, Chairman of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu was the chief guest who along with Ram Khajuria, senior vice president, Mountaineering Association of J&K, distributed medals and mementoes to the winners and guests.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Shawetica Khajuria, general secretary of the Association; Shivani Charak, an international climber and Sonam Sidharth, general secretary of District Mountaineering Association, Jammu.
The championship was organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
