Ice hockey training camp begins

KARGIL, Feb 2: A 10-day free ice hockey training camp kicked off in Youljuk, Tai-Suru Block, Kargil, organized by Downhill Kargil Adventure Sports Club with support from local Councillor Abdul Hadi. The initiative, aimed at promoting winter sports and nurturing local talent, has attracted enthusiastic participation from young athletes across Tai-Suru and nearby regions.
The camp focuses on developing essential ice hockey skills such as skating, puck control, and team coordination, under the guidance of experienced coaches. Imtiyaz Ali Khan, founder of Downhill Kargil Adventure Sports Club, emphasized the significance of such events in promoting a strong sports culture in Ladakh. “Ice hockey is a passion for the youth here, and this camp will help refine their skills for national and international competitions,” he said.
Councillor Abdul Hadi expressed full support for the program, encouraging local youth to make the most of this opportunity. “Supporting young athletes is crucial for the growth of winter sports in Kargil,” he stated.
The camp is expected to boost interest in ice hockey in the region, possibly leading to greater participation in professional tournaments. Participants will undergo structured training, on-ice drills, and friendly matches, with an exhibition match scheduled at the camp’s conclusion. This initiative highlights Ladakh’s growing status as a hub for winter sports.
