KARGIL, Nov 28: Rinchen Youdol, a Para Taekwondo athlete from Kargil, has made history by winning a Bronze Medal at the 1st World Para Poomsae Taekwondo Championships held in Manama, Bahrain. Rinchen, the daughter of Morup Dorjey and Stanzin Angmo, is the first-ever athlete from Ladakh to secure a medal at such a prestigious international event.
The championship saw 140 athletes from 23 countries compete across multiple categories. Rinchen participated in the Senior Female Contestants (No Age Bar) division, competing against top athletes like Janine Watson (Australia), Jane Bedford (Great Britain), and Eleni Nestora (Greece). Her remarkable performance earned her a well-deserved bronze.
In an emotional post-victory statement, Rinchen shared, “This victory is the result of years of hard work and discipline. Representing Ladakh and India at such a grand event has been an honour, and this moment feels surreal.”
She also expressed her gratitude to various officials and organizations, including Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra, Lt. Governor of Ladakh, and the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, for their constant support and encouragement. Rinchen’s achievement has inspired athletes across Ladakh and India, showcasing that with determination, dreams can be realized on the global stage.
