JAMMU, Nov 17: Jammu and Kashmir’s resilient middle-order, led by Captain Kanhaiya Wadhawan and promising batter Yawer Hassan, has given the team a chance to fight back in the ongoing U-23 Men’s Col CK Nayudu Trophy against Gujarat. The match, which seemed to be slipping away after a poor first innings from J&K, is now finely poised heading into the final day.
At the close of play on Day 3, J&K were 365/9, leading Gujarat by 231 runs with one wicket still in hand. The team’s recovery from a first-innings deficit of 133 runs was built on superb batting from Kanhaiya, who scored 94 runs, and Yawer, who made 69. Both played pivotal roles in a 156-run partnership that revitalized J&K’s innings.
Earlier, Gujarat had posted 270 in their first innings, with a stunning 140 from Rishi Patel, and had a first-innings lead. J&K’s bowlers, including Mujtaba Yousuf and Archit Mahajan, had earlier helped reduce Gujarat’s total, taking 4 wickets each. With one day remaining, the match remains in the balance, and both teams will look to dominate in the crucial final session.
