JAMMU, Nov 5: In the Balram Das Tandon U-16 Invitational All India tournament, hosted in Chandigarh and recognized by the BCCI, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) opened with a powerful victory over Mizoram, winning by an innings and 158 runs.
J&K set a daunting first-innings score of 344/6 declared in 73 overs, with Karanveer putting on a stunning display, scoring an unbeaten 200 off 206 balls, including 8 sixes and 28 fours at a strike rate above 96. Captain Abhiroop Das also contributed significantly, scoring 62 runs.
In response, Mizoram was bowled out for just 85 and 101 runs in their two innings, thanks largely to J&K’s strong bowling performance, especially from leg-spinner Usman, who took 5 wickets for 19 runs.
The tournament features eight teams: Delhi, Himachal Pradesh (HP), Punjab, J&K, Mizoram, Tripura, and two Chandigarh teams (A and B). Following this win, J&K will face Chandigarh A, which recently defeated HP, in their next match on November 7. The Sub Committee members praised the young team and support staff, including Coach Chetan Dhingra and team manager Rakesh Chopra, for their efforts in the victory.
