JAMMU, Apr 22: Various institutions of Jammu city, adjoining areas and the institutions of other districts celebrated Earth Day with pomp and show, today.
Institute of Mountain Environment, Bhaderwah Campus organized one-day workshop on ‘State of Environment in the Himalayas’ on the eve of Earth Day, 2014.
Prof G M Bhat, Rector, Bhaderwah Campus was the chief guest on the occasion, who in his key note address highlighted the global environmental scenario in terms of global warming, sea level rise, natural and man induced disasters, biodiversity loss and extinctions, etc.
Shayan Javeed, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Economics, IME presented the welcome address and highlighted in his technical presentation, the socio-environmental implications the marginalized mountain communities are facing and their response in the changing global scenario.
Chhering Tandup, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Earth Sciences introduced the theme of the workshop and apprised the audience about the history and significance of this day.
Dr Neeraj Sharma, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Life Sciences, Dr Subhash Chander, HoD, English and Prof G M Bhat also spoke on the occasion.
A formal vote of thanks was presented by Muzaffar Ahmed, Research Scholar, FoLS, IME, while the proceedings were conducted by Ms Anu Sharma, Research Scholar, FoLS, IME, Bhaderwah Campus.
The children of Social Organization Sahyog India celebrated the Earth Day in a unique programme, wherein they made a patient appeal to the world community to adopt innovative and practical modalities as well as ways and means to save the Earth Planet for the survival of mankind. The participating children were deaf, dumb and mentally challenged.
J&K Police Public School celebrated 44th Earth Day with great zeal and enthusiasm.
An Earth Day Parade was presented by the teachers and students of class IIIrd. Tiny Tots highlighted the fear and insecurity felt by the human beings, animals, plants and trees and water bodies. They focused on as to how the very source of life “The Mother Earth” is being mercilessly corroded, destroyed, polluted and wounded at the hands of the human beings. Principal, Kiran Raina appreciated the teachers and children for the selfless effort and encouraged the students to save earth.
The students of Mother’s Pride & Joy Pre-School celebrated ‘Earth Day’ today by organizing a Walkathon at Bahu Plaza Park to give out a message of preserving mother earth. Children and parents came together to celebrate the Earth Day and to learn and give a message as to how to protect it, reminding us of our duty to save the planet and give a better tomorrow by saving water, electricity, recycling and reducing waste and keeping our planet evergreen by more plantation and lesser destruction of environment.
The Walkathon was flagged off at the Bahu Plaza entrance by Pardeep Dutta, J&K Bureau Chief Times Now TV Channel, Sunil Jain, president Rotary Club Jammu, Dr Chand Trehan, eminent child psychologist, besides School Director Rajeev Khurana and Principal Mona Khurana.
KC Gurukul Public School Paloura Jammu paid warm tribute to Planet Earth by celebrating Earth Day in the School premises to make young children aware of the importance of hazards of pollution. Vijay Puri, Academic Director delivered an illuminating discourse on the importance of trees in our environment. Some posters and slogan were displaced.
Earth Day was celebrated in KC International School with a pledge to protect and preserve mother earth. Dr Anita Thompson, Chief Engineer from NASA, United States visited the School and shared her views with students. In her address, she reiterated that each individual must contribute to make the planet a healthy place to live for future generations.
The student performed many other items like skits on the occasion. English Drama Club presented a Recycling Rap. A poster making competition was also organized for the students of Class V-VIII.
The Environment and Science Club also conducted a rally in Gandhi Nagar area to encourage and motivate people to save earth and keep it green and clean.
Principal of the School, Dr Ravi Bhushan in his speech said that earth must be protected for survival of mankind.
Rich Harvest School celebrated ‘World Earth Day’ with fervor and gaiety. Ruchi Charak (Trustee), Dr Shivani Singh (Principal) and other staff members of the school along with students were present on the occasion. The school organized a special event to develop awareness among the students regarding conservation of natural resources for future use and the present condition of global warming and continuous environment degradation.
Today on the occasion of Earth Day, Global Convent School organized Inter-Class Debate Competition, in which senior wing students participated with great enthusiasm and discussed various problems related to Global Warming like deforestation, recycling and Eco-System.
School Principal, Mrs Gandotra along with Founder, Mona Pandoh were present. The students of junior wing planted saplings in the school premises.
Elite Public High School, Udhywalla on Tuesday celebrated Earth Day with great pomp and show. Elitians celebrated Earth Day by carrying a march from Santra Morh to Udhywalla, Bohri with a mission of creating awareness among the masses in saving mother earth. Debates and Poster making competition was also held on the occasion.
Little Millennium, a leading Pre-School promoted by M/s Educomp Childcare today celebrated the 44th World Earth Day for their Roop Nagar and Gandhi Nagar Centres in a well attended function.
A field trip was organized to the Rajinder Park Canal Road Jammu. Students of both the branches participated by planting the plants of medicinal and ornamental nature at the Rajinder Park. The progarmme was organized under the supervision of Akhila Magotra, Chief Learning Officer, who while speaking on the occasion sensitized the participants about the importance of preserving the flora and fauna of the Mother Earth.
Students of Jodhamal Public School Jammu celebrated Earth Day 2014 with enthusiasm and certain energized eco-activities. The whole school was filled with heartwarming and ecologically touching artworks, and the displays done by the students of all the classes. The most prominent was the little kids of Pre-Primary Wing who had decorated themselves with green leaves and flowers to honour the Mother Earth and to give a message to whole nation, to save the environment.
The students of Jodhamal also took pledge to protect the natural resources and utilize them on sustainable basis for the prosperity and well being of the future generation.
Speaking on the occasion, the School Principal, Trilok Singh Bist exhorted students to love Mother Nature and be grateful to the God for this beautiful Earth.
The Inner Call, Forum for Evolution, Development and Awareness organized a one-day awareness programme on the World Earth Day, today.
The programme was inaugurated by the Chairperson, The Inner Call, Roma Wani, who in her inaugural speech said that the idea behind celebration of this day is to focus on living in harmony with nature and show respect to Mother Earth. Secretary, The Inner Call, Affan Yesvi said that our heads and hearts are to be put together to protect the Mother Earth by shedding the practice that leads to unusual climate change. Spokesperson, The Inner Call, Inam-Un-Nabi also spoke on the occasion.
Kids Campus, International Pre & Primary School, Channi Himmat, celebrated Earth Day 2014 by promoting the concept ‘Go Green’. Children celebrated green day as they came in green outfits with the projects made by re-using the paper and waste material. The outreach documentary movie sensitized the kids about the bountiful mother nature and how our irresponsible actions are causing her to perish.
Daffodils Care Convent Play Way School, Jain Bazar, celebrated Earth’s Day with enthusiasm today. The students expressed their concern for environment during the day. Students of Pre Nursery, Nursery, LKG and UKG presented their concern for Mother Earth in various presentations.
Information given by Sunita Jain, class teacher of UKG displayed the urgency to start action with regard to saving environment from pollution.
The School, Principal Shikha Puri expressed her sentiments for the depleting environment and urged the little ones to follow the norms from the beginning for saving it.
To celebrate the World Earth Day 2014 and spread the message of this year’s theme- ‘Green Cities’, an impressive awareness event was organized at Central Park Bahu Plaza Jammu by J & K State Pollution Control Board in collaboration with Nirvana Academy- a cultural Club and Mindscape Environmental and Educational Trust. Diverse activities related to the Art work/ poster making/ painting competition were carried out among professional, amateur and budding artist.
Vinod Ranjan, Chairman, J&K State Pollution Control Board Jammu was the chief guest and Shantmanu Divisional Commissioner Jammu was the guest of honour on the occasion. Shushma Chouhan, Vice Chairman JDA was the special guest on the occasion along with R C Puri, Secretary Indian Red Cross Jammu Region. Vaishili, Shivang Sharma and S Gurbachan Singh weree the winners in sub junior, junior and senior category respectively.
Department of Geology, University of Jammu today organized a quiz competition titled as ‘Know Your Planet’ to commemorate the Earth Day. Professor R K Ganjoo, Head of Department welcomed the participating teams and other guests, while Prof M A Malik acted as the observer of the competition.
The team comprising of Rahul Magotra, Beena Kousar and Sahil Mahajan won the first prize.
