JAMMU, Feb 10: Minister for Medical Education and Youth Services & Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today inaugurated 4th Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament, here today.
21 teams from within and outside the State are participating in the Tournament.
The inaugural match was played between Jammu United and Sainik Colony Football Club, wherein Sainik Colony prevailed over their rival by six goals to five (6-5) in a close contest via tie-breaker.
Earlier, both the teams scored two goals each in the stipulated time and the match was decided through tie-breaker.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the promotion of sports was important for the development of healthy society, adding that the State Government is keen to develop proper sports infrastructure in this regard.   He said various stadia and playgrounds have been developed on modern lines for providing better facilities to the youth.
Earlier, the Minister interacted with the players of the both the teams and wished them good luck.
Young Star will take on Engineers XI, while Young Rovers will face JK Bank Academy in the two matches to be played tomorrow.
