UDHAMPUR, Dec 31: The Army Medical Corps (AMC) will celebrate its Anniversary tomorrow.
The celebrations commenced at Command Hospital (Northern Command), the flagship medical unit of the Armed Forces Medical Services, with a ‘Walk for Fun’ at Bikram Park, here today.
The walk was inaugurated by Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, AVSM, VSM, GOC-in-C, Northern Command alongwith Anshul Chachra, president, Family Welfare Organization (FWO).
Around 200 officers, 1500 JCO/OR, School children and families joined the Army Commander and president FWO in the 2.4 km run, in-spite of inclement weather.
A lecture on the advantages of Walking was also organized on the occasion.
Various stalls displayed a variety of healthy foods and educated all personnel about the advantages of staying fit.
Command Hospital (Northern Command) was raised as 148 Indian General Hospital at Lucknow in July 1948 and moved to Udhampur in December 1948 and redesigned as Command Hospital (Northern Command) on 12 April 1989.
A large number of Casualties/Battle Accidents with life threatening injuries have been successfully treated at the hospital. The hospital was awarded the coveted Raksha Mantri Trophy for being the best Command Hospital of the Armed Forces in years 2001 and 2006.
In Jan 2007 the hospital was awarded Unit Appreciation by GOC-in-C Northern Command for its commendable performance of exceptionally high order in Jammu and Kashmir.
Maj Gen Bipin Puri, the present Commandant leads a very committed, dynamic and vibrant team of specialists, super specialists and Nursing officers.
