JAMMU, Dec 22: The strong side of Uttar Pradesh will lock horns with Uttrakhand in boys final, while Maharashtra will be taking on Rajasthan in the girls summit clash of the 59th National School Games Volleyball Under-14 Boys and Girls Tournament, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the auspices of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at MA Stadium, here today.
The tournament is being conducted under the chairmanship of the Director General Youth Services and Sports J&K, Navin Aggarwal, who visited the venue alongwith Joint Director, Madan Lal today and interacted with players of the boys and girls semifinalist, while the Tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Ved Prakash, Deputy Director YSS Jammu, who is the organizing secretary of the event.
In the first semifinal in boys section, Uttar Pradesh thrashed Delhi (3-0) by (25-15, 26-24, 25-13) to seal berth in the finals, while in another semifinal of boys section, Uttrakhand got better of Karnataka (3-1) by (25-20, 13-25, 25-22, 25-19) to qualify for the title clash.
In girls first semifinal, Rajasthan got better of Uttar Pradesh (3-1) by (20-25, 25-15, 25-15, 27-25) to storm into the finals, while in another semifinal, Maharashtra prevailed over Karnataka (3-0) by (25-14, 25-14, 25-14) and entered the finals.
Earlier, in boys quarterfinals, UP trounced Vidya Bharti (3-1) by (25-23, 20-0-25, 25-23, 25-23), Delhi drubbed AP (3-2) by (25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-13), Uttrakhand beat Manipur (3-1) by (25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 25-16) and Karnataka outplayed West Bengal (3-0) by (25-12, 25-19, 25-12).
In quarterfinals in girls section, Rajasthan outclassed West Bengal (3-1) by (16-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-22), Uttar Pradesh thrashed Andhra Pradesh (3-1) by (25-17, 25-19, 24-26, 25-14), Karnataka defeated Delhi (3-1) by (25-21, 25-10, 20-25, 26-24) and Maharashtra got better of Haryana (3-0) by (25-20, 25-16, 25-20).
The final matches in both the sections and the hardliner matches will be played tomorrow before the Prize Distribution function to be held at 12 noon at the same venue tomorrow, in which Minister for Roads and Buildings, Abdul Majid Wani will be the chief guest.
