GMC Sgr organises cycling event ahead of Int’l Women’s Day

SRINAGAR, Mar 5: In the prelude to International Women’s Day, a cycling event was today organised by the Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar through its Block Medical Officer, Hazratbal.
The cycling was conducted from the Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Hazratbal to Nishat Garden which was flagged off by Prof. Nelofar Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir and Prof. Masood Tanvir, Principal/ Dean, GMC, Srinagar.
Those present on the occasion include HoD Community Medicine Prof. S Muhammad Salim Khan, HoD Paediatrics Prof. Muzaffar Jan, HoD Surgery Prof. Mufti Mehmood Ahmed, HoD Anesthesia & Critical Medicine Prof. Ruqsana Najeeb, HoD Gynaecology and Obstetrics Prof. Rizwana Habib, from GMC Srinagar, Dr Jameel Ahmed Mir, CMO Srinagar, Dr Nighat Hameed, Dy CMO Srinagar and others.
The cycling participants include doctors, staff and students from various health facilities, the University of Kashmir and Kashmir Harvard School.
The event was supported by ‘Curve Electric’- a public E-bike sharing system, Cycling Association J&K and other organisations. It was organised by Dr Farah Shafi, BMO Hazratbal and her team.
It was emphasised that people shall take up cycling as a mode of transportation as well as routine activity to stay healthy amidst a growing pandemic of non-communicable diseases. The experts emphasised better care of women at all levels and in all spheres of life.
