Vishwas organizes Inter-School debating competition

AKHNOOR, May 20: NGO Vishwas in collaboration with St Francis Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor organised 1st  Fr Jey Kumar Memorial State Level Inter-School debating competition at Bishop Hippolytus Memorial MM Hall in School premises, here today.
15 teams from participated in this State level competition. The schools included: APS Pahalgam, APS Akhnoor, APS Rakhmuthi , GD Goenka, DPS, St Xaviers’, Presentation Convent, Chanderbhaga Akhnoor, GHHS Narrari Bala and St Francis itself. The topic of this debate was “In light of the present developments, India needs to reconsider its foreign  policy towards its neighbours.”
Rayees Md Bhat, SDPO Akhnoor was the chief guest, while Dr Asha Abrol, Principal GDC Akhnoor was the convener of the debate.
The jury members included Fr Justin, Director Social Welfare Diocese Jammu Srinagar; and Prof Shameem Ahmed.
The Principal of the host School , Fr S Joseph was the guest of honour.
The Debate was organised in the memory of Fr. Jey Kumar, the former Principal of St Francis and a true visionary and a great leader. He transformed the quality of education in the entire Akhnoor Tehsil and he was, and is still, an inspiration to many. Homage was paid to this great soul as he was remembered for his pioneering efforts.
Bhavneet Kour of Presentation Convent, Jammu was declared the best speaker, while Chahat Masoom of Delhi Public School, Jammu and Raja Muzamil  of APS Pahalgam bagged second and third place respectively. The “Best team trophy” went to Presentation Convent Senior Secondary School Jammu which comprised of Chanan Deep Kour and Bhavneet Kour.
