Chandigarh, May 12: Punjab, Delhi and Haryana lifted the team trophies in the boys Greco-Roman, boys freestyle and girls freestyle categories, respectively, in the 32nd Boys Freestyle and Greco-Roman and 15th Female Junior National Wrestling Championship organised by the Chandigarh (UT) Wrestling Association here today.
With a haul of three gold and two bronze medals, Punjab emerged champions with 62 points in the boys freestyle competitions. Uttar Pradesh secured 53 points with the help of three silver and one bronze medals which entitled them to the runners-up trophy. Delhi got the third position with 50 points as they earned one gold and three bronze medals.
Delhi clinched the boys freestyle trophy by logging 69 points. The Delhi wrestlers have bagged three gold and three silver medals. Haryana finished runners-up with 48 points which they logged by winning three gold and one silver medals. Services Sports Control Board were third with 37 points with two gold medals.
Haryana struck half a dozen gold and two bronze medals and piled up 76 points to claim the girls freestyle trophy. Close on their heels were Uttar Pradesh who grabbed 70 points with the help of one gold, three silver and four bronze medals. Delhi with three bronze medals finished third with 35 points.
Sonu of Haryana prevailed over Vijay of Himachal Pradesh in the 120 kg Greco-Roman style final. Anil (Delhi) and Mehar Singh (Chattisgarh) got bronze medal. Another gold for Haryana in the Greco-Roman was claimed by Rakesh who outpointed Pritam Khot of Services Sports Control Board in the 60 kg category final.
Surajmal (SSCB) and Sandeep (Chandigarh) earned bronze medals. Wrestling Federation of India General Secretary Raj Singh distributed trophies to the winning states.
Pradeep Kumar of SSCB was awarded gold medal in the 60 kg freestyle category final. He defeated his namesake from Delhi on points. Nagaraj M (Karnataka) and Vikas (Chandigarh) settled for bronze medals. (UNI)
