Jammu, Oct 31: District Police Udhampur today organized “District level U-19 Cricket”tournament which was declared open by Rajinder Katoch, Additional SP Udhampur in Presence of Shahid Nahiem, JKPS DySP DAR DPL Udhampur and other officers/officials.
Speaking on the occassion, Katoch laid stress on the importance of sports activities in the life of a person especially youths to channelise their energy in a positive way.
Sports activities helps keep the youth physically and mentally fit to achieve desirous progressive goals. Besides it also keep them away from social evils like drugs addictions, terrorism, separatism etc,” he said.
He informed that the district level Sports festival Udhampur 2020 is being organised from October 31 to November 4 at District Police Lines Udhampur in which about 11 U-19 cricket teams of district Udhampur would be participating.
About 10 officials of Department of Youth Services and Sports will remain engaged in officiating these matches during the cricket tournament.
A T-20 Cricket match was organised on the occasion of inaugural function between Sunrise Red Udhampur and Jakhani Cricket Club Udhampur which was won by Sun Rise Red Udhampur by 72 Runs.
A large number of sports lovers watched the game and applauded the efforts put forth by District Police for providing a platform to the youths to display their talent towards positive direction and urged that such platforms should be provided in future too. The spectators enjoyed the game by encouraging the youths of the district to ensure participation in the programs meant for welfare of youngsters in Particular & the society in general.
