9 J&K players to fight for Gold

JAMMU, Nov 25: A thrilling battle is set to unfold as nine athletes from Jammu and Kashmir have secured their spots in the finals of the ongoing 68th National School Games in Wushu U-17 Boys and Girls categories.
In the boys’ category, J&K’s finalists include Suryansh Singh in the -60kg category, Arham Parray in the -70kg category, Mehran Amin in the -75kg category, Umaan Arif in the -80kg category, and Mohd Haseeb in the -85kg category. The girls’ team is represented by Jiya Manhas, Aliza Shah, Saliqa Farooq, and Sadiya Gulzar.
J&K athletes made a strong impact in the semi-finals. Suryansh Singh defeated Dileswar Majhi of Odisha in the -60kg category, while Arham Parray triumphed over Mukul Khatri of Delhi in the -70kg category. Mehran Amin overcame Ajay Chavan of Maharashtra in the -75kg category, and Umaan Arif beat Nikhil Khatri of Delhi in the -80kg category. In the -85kg category, Mohd Haseeb Sohil bested Rahit Sarkar of West Bengal.
On the girls’ side, Jiya Manhas overcame Himani of Rajasthan in the -45kg category, while Saliqa Farooq defeated Dilpreet Kaur of Chandigarh in the -52kg category. Aliza Shah won her semi-final against Anushka Pandey of Madhya Pradesh in the -60kg category, and Sadiya Gulzar secured a spot in the final by beating Ishan Sharma of CBSE in the -70kg category.
The event is part of a mega sports series featuring over 600 players from 21 states and UTs. The 68th National School Games also include competitions in Judo, Fencing, and Football. Rajinder Singh Tara, Director General of Youth Services and Sports J&K, inaugurated the medal bouts, accompanied by other dignitaries including Jitendra Mishra and Chief Wushu Coach Kuldeep Handoo.
