JAMMU, May 25: The 7th Joginder Kour Badminton tournament organized at Sports Complex SKUAST-Jammu, Chatha concluded here today.
More than 100 players participated under six categories (U- 14 Single-Double, U-19, under Senior Men-Women, Mix Doubles, Veteran 40 plus-Veteran 50 plus. Participants of age ranging from 8 to 74 years participated along with technocrats and professors, National and State champions under all categories took part. This tournament is dedicated every year with a specific theme and this year the theme is- “A Drive against Drug Menace”.
In valedictory concluding ceremony Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, Prof. B.N. Tripathi was the chief guest and presented awards, trophies to winners and runners as well as participants. Arun Manhas, Director Industries and Commerce, Jammu was the guest of honour, Damanpreet Kour, Dr Vijay Saigal, President Jammu University Teachers Association, DySP Deshbir Singh, Dr Subash Sharma, Prof. Arvinder Singh, Dr Veena Technical Officer Agro meteorology, Dr Gurdev Chand, Dr Billoria, Sarpanch Avtar Singh.
In his presidential address, VC SKUAST-Jammu defined this initiative of trust a big eye opener effort which is need of hour to channelize the youth energy through the medium of sports Dr Arun Manhas also urged to continue such reformation events as youth is the biggest force of any nation to bring laurels to the society.
The results were :U-14 boys single event won by Arush Padha, U-14 boys double event won by Shivang and Deepansh, U-14 girls single event won by Akshivi Manhas, U-19 boys singles and baubles event won by Ragav and Raghav -Ragav Magotra respectively, Men single senior and double event won by Aryan and Ritik and Aryan respectively, women singles and double event won by Antima, Yashleen and Antima respectively, 40 plus singles men and doubles won by Neeraj Gupta, Parkirat Singh and Yashr and 50 plus single and doubles (men) event won by Narinder Singh and Ajay Sharma -Sandeep.
The outstanding player of the tournament in Men section was Raghav while it was Simon Singh in women’s category.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Dr Vinod Kumar SSP- Jammu in presence of dignitaries such as Dr Gurdev Chand HoD, Som Nath Gupta Senior International player. The tournament was organized under the aegis of Joginder Kour Memorial Trust.
