JAMMU, Oct 29: The 6th Masters Jammu District Athletics Championship concluded at MA Stadium, Jammu, showcasing exceptional talent and sportsmanship among men and women athletes across various age categories.
In Men’s Javelin Throw, the gold medals were claimed by Bansi Lal Tidyal (75+ yrs), Sardari Lal Sharma (70+ yrs), Sadeeq Hussain (60+ yrs), Gurcharan Singh (50+ yrs), Dharvinder Singh (45+ yrs) and Dr. V.P. Singh (35+ yrs). Mamta Bajaj (40+ yrs) won gold in Women’s Javelin Throw, while Maninder Kaur (50+ yrs) secured gold in the Women’s 10,000m race.
The Men’s 400m race golds went to Gaffor Husain (35+ yrs), Abhishek Sharma (40+ yrs) and Manav Gulati (45+ yrs), while Sandeep Sharma (40+ yrs) clinched the Men’s 200m race. In the Men’s 3000m Walk, Tarsem Lal Basotra (70+ yrs), Ved Paul (50+ yrs) and Ankush Singh (35+ yrs) topped their categories, while the Women’s 3000m Walk golds went to Sudesh Basotra (65+ yrs), Veena Kumari (50+ yrs), Neetu Chib (30+ yrs) and Sonia (40+ yrs).
In the Men’s 1500m race, Ajay Gandotra (60+ yrs), Rakesh Kumar (55+ yrs), Ram Raj (50+ yrs), and Abhishek Sharma (40+ yrs) emerged victorious. Women’s 400m golds were won by Bhavna Salathia (50+ yrs), Anuradha (45+ yrs), Sonia Dewan (40+ yrs) and Avneet Kaur (35+ yrs). The Men’s 5000m race winners included Govind Singh (70+ yrs), Vivek Gandotra (50+ yrs), Mangat Singh (40+ yrs) and Bunty Kumar (35+ yrs).
Meanwhile, Team Jammu Trekkers showcased an exceptional performance in the event. Dr. Shivani Manchanda won gold in the 100m race and silver in javelin throw, while Enakshi Gupta claimed gold in the 1500m run and silver in the 5km run. Sheetal Sadhotra impressed with gold in the 5km run and silver in the 1500m run and another team member added a silver in the 10km run and a bronze in the 200m sprint, reflecting the team’s versatility and all-round excellence.
The championship was organized by Tarsem Lal Basotra, General Secretary of J&K Master Athletics Association and officiated by Gurcharan Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, Harvinder Singh, Sahil Sharma, Nitin Saini and Gyan Kaur.
