69th NSG: J&K beats Delhi to enter U-14 cricket semis

JAMMU, Jan 22: Jammu and Kashmir secured a spot in the semifinals of the 69th National School Games U-14 Boys Cricket Tournament by defeating Delhi by 16 runs in a thrilling quarterfinal encounter at Sikar, Rajasthan. The tournament is being organised by the Government of Rajasthan under the aegis of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
Earlier, J&K defeated Telangana by five wickets in the pre-quarterfinals and registered convincing wins over hosts Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat during the league stage.
In the quarterfinal, after winning the toss, J&K batted first and posted 141 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 15 overs. Skipper Muhammad Mudrik top-scored with an unbeaten 67 runs, while Bavyam Bhagat contributed 49 and Asif Rehman added a quick 14 off 5 balls. In reply, Delhi managed 125 runs for 8 wickets, falling short by 16 runs. Sharib Showkat took 2 wickets, with Mudrik, Owais Ishaq and Harris Rehman claiming one each.
J&K will face Madhya Pradesh in the semifinals tomorrow. The team, accompanied by former Ranji Trophy player Suresh Singh as coach, is competing under the banner of the Department of Youth Services and Sports. Anuradha Gupta, DG Youth Services and Sports, congratulated the team and wished them success for the remaining matches.
