POONCH, Jan 29: In a remarkable achievement for hockey in Jammu & Kashmir, 53 players from Sham Lal Hockey Club and Power House Hockey Club, Poonch, have been selected to represent the district and the Union Territory in prestigious National Hockey Championships and National School Games during the 2025–26 Season.
The players are trainees of the Khelo India Hockey Centre and PMDP Hockey Centre, Poonch, reflecting the growing strength of hockey in the region. Among the selected athletes for the 15th Hockey India Sub-Junior National Championship are Rahiees Ahmed, Mohd Altamash, Shivam Mehra, Mantej Singh, Sabiullah, Akshara Dutta, Haiqa Banday, Arzoo Kouser, Divya Sharma and Nazia Kouser.
For the Junior Nationals, Mohd Sami, Rishi Sharma, Sanjana Yadav, Iram Shabbir, Samina Akhter, Shahreen Kouser and Saira Banday will compete, while the Senior Nationals will feature Abhilove Kour, Urvashi Sharma, Mridhu Sharma, Sofia, Jagmeet Singh, Sujal Mehta and Vishu Sharma.
Other selections include Mohd Sami for the All India Police Meet; Kawanbir Singh, Sparash Sharma, Shiv Kesar, Arafat Jahangir, Navkiran Kour, Divya Sharma, Kanisha Puri, Vidhulla Puri, Avleen Kour, Mannat Rayaz, Mohd Altamash, Rahiees Ahmed, Shivam Mehra, Haiqa Banday, Arzoo Kouser, Farzana, Japneet Kour, Nazia Kouser, Rozia Kouser, Mohd Sameer, Manpreet Singh, Mohd Rameez, Shahista Majid, Saira Banday, Shahreen Kouser, Pakiza Akhter, Jagmeet Singh (North Zone Inter-University) and Akshara Dutta (All India Inter SAI). The clubs congratulated all players and thanked coaches Pawan Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Navjot Singh, Saval Ahmed, and supporting organizations including the District Administration, Police, Indian Army, and Hockey J&K, for their guidance and encouragement.
