48th Annual Inter-Collegiate Athletic meet begins

JAMMU, Feb 17: The 48th Annual Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet (Men & Women) Championship 2025-26 commenced at the University Synthetic Track after being declared open by Prof Parkash C Anthal, Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function.
Organised by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu, the three-day championship is witnessing participation of over 550 athletes from affiliated colleges. Dr Ginny Dogra, Director, DIQA, was the guest of honour, while Prof Komal Nagar, I/C Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Er Ameet Tagotra, Assistant Director, DIQA and Ravinder Singh, Sr Vice-President, J&K Athletics Association, were special guests.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Anthal lauded the organisers for successfully hosting the mega event and emphasised the importance of sports in promoting discipline, togetherness and in identifying hidden talent from remote areas.
The proceedings were conducted by Dr Vimal Kishore, Lakshika Jamwal and Yamnesh Thakur, while the vote of thanks was presented by Dr Mandeep Singh. Among others present were Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, Jai Bharat, PD Singh, Madan Gopal, Sanjeev Kumar, Harinderpal Singh, Richa Mandla, Dr Inderjeet Singh, Dr Mahak and Dr Divesh Kumar, besides Physical Directors and team incharges.
Meanwhile, results of the day were Shivam Sharma of GDC Kathua won Gold in the 10,000m (Men), while Bhushan Singh (PG Department) took Silver and Rohit of GDC Udhampur secured Bronze. In the 800m (Men), Ansh Dubey of PG Department clinched Gold, followed by Amit Singh of GDC Samba with Silver and Anish Sharma of GDC Khour with Bronze. In the 800m (Women), Taniya Devi of GDC Billawar bagged Gold; Amisha of GCW Udhampur claimed Silver and Janhavi Devi of GDC Hiragana secured Bronze.
