
*JU’s PG Deptt clinches Overall C’ship

JAMMU, Mar 7: The PG Department of the University of Jammu clinched the Overall Championship Trophy at the 47th Annual Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet (Men & Women) Championship 2024-25, securing a total of 95 points. The event saw more than 250 athletes from 45 colleges competing in various athletic disciplines. The PG Department triumphed in both the Men’s and Women’s categories, scoring 38 points in the Men’s events and 57 points in the Women’s section.
Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean, Research Studies at the University of Jammu was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. Alongside her, other dignitaries, including Prof. Dipankar Sen Gupta, Dr. Ginny Dogra, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Dr. Rahilla Parveen, Supriya Sharma and Vimal Kishore were present. The dignitaries distributed medals and trophies to the winners, acknowledging the athletic excellence on display during the competition.
In the 5000-meter races, Leela Parsad of GDC Doda won the Gold with a time of 17:34.40, while Sanjeet Singh from GDC Udhampur bagged the Silver at 18:39.37 and Alam Churain from GDC Khilotran secured the Bronze at 18:59.03 in the Men’s event. The Women’s 5000-meter race saw Tamiya Devi from GDC Billawar winning Gold with a time of 25:36.37, followed by Romika Manhas from GDC Khilotran with Silver at 27:00.48 and Radika Devi from GDC Basohli taking Bronze with 27:14.40.
The 3000-meter races also produced exciting results, with Simran Sharma of GCW Udhampur winning Gold at 13:25.88 in the Women’s event, just edging out Parul Sharma from the PG Department of JU, who earned Silver with a time of 13:25.92. Priya Sharma from GDC Ramnagar took Bronze at 15:06.15.
In the 4x400m relay, the Women’s race was won by GCW Udhampur, with Simran Sharma, Ankita Sharma, Ritta Devi and Lakshmi Devi taking the Gold with a time of 5:27.17. The PG Department of JU also performed exceptionally well, claiming Silver in this event. On the Men’s side, GDC Doda emerged victorious, with Leela Parsad, Nikhil, Vikram, and Tofail clocking 14:06.11 for Gold.
In the 200-meter races, Gansham from GDC Marh won Gold in the Men’s category with a time of 23.87, while Khushi Verma from the PG Department of JU claimed Gold in the Women’s race with 31.43. The 100-meter races saw Rama Sharma from the PG Department of JU securing Gold for the Women with a time of 14.12, and Ghansham of GDC Marh bagging the Gold for Men with 11.90.
In the High Jump category, Prince Shivam of the PG Department of JU won the Gold in the Men’s event with a jump of 1.62 meters, while Sakshi Gouria from the same department claimed the Women’s Gold with a height of 1.24 meters.
Best Athletes of the championship were Leela Parsad from GDC Doda in the Men’s category and Taniya Devi from GDC Billawar in the Women’s category. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Ravish Vaid.
