JAMMU, Nov 16: The MA Stadium came alive with energy and excitement as the 3rd Jammu Midnight Marathon witnessed the participation of more than 600 runners, marking one of the most vibrant sporting events in the region. Organised by the J&K Sports Council in collaboration with Real Time Sports, the marathon was conducted last night and early this morning across multiple categories.
The event was led by Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani and Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul joined the event as guest of honour.
Addressing participants, Minister Satish Sharma emphasized the Government’s commitment to sports development, saying, “Our priority is to create an ecosystem where athletes have access to quality training, world-class facilities, and regular competitive exposure.” He added, “A healthy J&K is our commitment, and we will continue expanding initiatives that benefit athletes and society at large.”
Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani praised the event’s growing popularity, noting, “The enthusiasm witnessed today reflects the evolving sports culture in J&K. Under the dynamic leadership of our CM, We are enhancing infrastructure, supporting athletes at every level, and encouraging citizens to embrace physical activity. Events like these unite communities and motivate youth towards disciplined, active living”.
In the 42 km Full Marathon (Female) category, the race concluded with Amarjit Kaur emerging as the champion after clocking an impressive 04:39:23, followed by Prerna Sharma who secured the second position with 05:15:44. No other female runners participated in this category.
In the 42 km Full Marathon (Male) division, Ratan Shankar claimed the top spot with a strong finish of 03:00:00. He was closely followed by Ashanand Jha, who completed his run in 03:08:45, while Buwang Konyak secured third place with a timing of 03:09:46.
The 21 km Half Marathon (Female) category saw Manminder Kaur taking first place with 01:43:47. She was followed by Rimpi Devi, who finished in 02:05:37 and Tina Sahi, who completed the race in 02:06:19.
In the 21 km Half Marathon (Male) segment, Ram Chandran dominated with an impressive 01:12:35, while Hans Raj took second place clocking 01:13:29. Shivaraj K. secured third position with 01:17:31, rounding off a highly competitive field.
Participants also contested in the 5 km and 10 km categories, supported by medical teams, volunteers, hydration points, pacers, and enthusiastic spectators, ensuring a world-class experience throughout the night. The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, where winners across all categories were honoured.
