JAMMU, Jan 15: The 3rd Chancellor’s Trophy 2025–26 (Men & Women) Championship commenced today at University of Jammu under auspices of the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education. The championship was formally declared open by the chief guest, Prof Satya Paul, Coordinator RUSA, University of Jammu, in the presence of Dr Dhritika Singh, Joint Registrar Finance, University of Jammu and Dr Showkat Hussain, Principal, Government Physical Education College, Ganderbal.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed a large gathering of dignitaries, players, officials, university employees, students and members of civil society. The championship is being held from January 15 to 19 and has attracted participation of over 800 athletes representing various universities and institutions from the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and neighbouring States.
Competitions are being conducted in Volleyball (Men), Kabaddi (Men), Football (Men), Wrestling (Men), Table Tennis (Men), Kho-Kho (Women), Badminton (Women), Basketball (Men & Women), Handball (Men & Women) and Athletics (Men & Women).
Addressing the gathering, Prof Satya Paul congratulated the organizers for hosting a mega sporting event and emphasized that such championships provide an excellent platform for students to interact, foster unity and showcase their sporting talent. On the occasion, he also unveiled the mascot of the 3rd Chancellor’s Trophy 2026.
Earlier, Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu, presented the welcome address and highlighted the role of sports in inculcating discipline, camaraderie and togetherness among students.
The proceedings were conducted by Dr Vimal Kishore along with Lakshika Jamwal and Yamnesh Thakur, while the vote of thanks was presented by Dr Mandeep Singh, Assistant Professor, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education.
Among others present were Dr Akhilesh Sharma, Vimal Kishore, Vikas Karlopia, Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, Jai Bharat, P D Singh, Harinderpal Singh, Dr Inderjeet Singh, Dr Mahak, Sanjeev Kumar, Dr Divesh Kumar, Richa Mandla and officials of participating teams.
In today’s matches, in Table Tennis (Men), University of Jammu registered two convincing victories, defeating Cluster University Srinagar and MIET Jammu by identical margins of 3–0. IUST Awantipura also secured a dominant 3–0 win over Cluster University of Jammu, while SMVDU Katra outplayed University of Ladakh by 3–0.
In Badminton (Women), University of Jammu defeated Cluster University Srinagar by 2–0. SKUAST Jammu also recorded a comfortable 2–0 victory against University of Ladakh.
In Kabaddi (Men), Cluster University of Jammu put up a strong performance to defeat SKUAST Jammu by a margin of 32 points. Matches were officiated by Jeevan Lal, Arjun Sharma, Ravish Vaid, Vikas Karlopia, Sakshi Dabgotra, Mena Ragesh and Anil Singh.
