SRINAGAR, Oct 18: Police arrested around 30 employees of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) as they tried to march towards the Lal Chowk during a protest demonstration carried out by them in support of their demands.
This afternoon scores of Urban Local Bodies employees assembled at the Press Enclave here and raised slogans in support of their demands. The protesters were demanding re-organization of the Urban Local Bodies and said that there is a need to rationalize the staff pattern in ULBs.
Addressing the protesters, Manzoor Ahmad Pampori, president, Jammu and Kashmir Urban Local Bodies Employees United Forum said that Departmental Promotion Committees should meet regularly so that the promotions are cleared. Manzoor said that daily wagers and consolidated employees working for more than 15 years should be regularized.
“Service rules are being trampled with by the higher ups and these are not being implemented by the concerned authorities”, said Manzoor.
The arrested employees were released in the evening.
