POONCH, June 16: The 2nd District Magistrate Open Chess Championship 2025 was inaugurated today at Dina Nath Rafiq Memorial (DNRM) Girls Higher Secondary School, Poonch, organized by the District Administration Poonch in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal, was the chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the significance of sports, particularly chess, in developing mental strength, discipline, and strategic thinking among youth. He praised the efforts of the Youth Services and Sports Department and the school administration for promoting mind sports in the district.
A total of 70 players, including 55 boys and 15 girls from across the district, are participating in the championship. The event reflects a growing enthusiasm for chess and aims to encourage students to engage in intellectually stimulating activities for their overall development. The championship will also help identify and nurture young chess talent in the region.
