SRINAGAR, Aug 24: The three-day Wushu selection trial for the 20th Asian Games concluded today at Shere-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex (SKISC), drawing nearly 200 competitors in the Sanda (combat) category from across India. Under the Wushu Association of India’s (WAI) policy, seven athletes per weight category have been shortlisted for the next stage, with reserved spots for World Championship participants. Impressively, 12 athletes from Jammu & Kashmir have secured berths among the shortlisted names.
The upcoming Taolu Selection Trial in Imphal from August 25-27, 2025, will narrow the field further-four athletes per event will advance towards Ranking Tournaments scheduled in November. Eight athletes per event will eventually secure their berths for the Asian Games final squad.
The concluding day was graced by WAI dignitaries: Vijay Saraf (General Secretary, WAI), Suhel Ahmed (CEO, WAI) and Kuldeep Handoo (Dronacharya Awardee & National Chief Coach), who commended both the athletes and organizers for a seamless event.
Preparatory efforts will continue with a National Wushu Coaching Camp in October 2025, followed by a 45-day foreign exposure training in China, alongside additional international camps-ensuring India’s athletes receive top tier preparation ahead of the Games.
