18th Kargil War Heroes T-20 Tourney begins

LEH, Mar 18: A month long 18th Kargil War Heroes T-20 Cricket Tournament began at NDS Stadium, here today.
About 40 different Cricket Sporting Clubs representing different region of Ladakh participating in the tournament, organized by Sports and Culture Welfare Society, Chushot.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Chushot Councillor Mirza Hussain.
The Councillor in his inaugural speech appreciated the organizer for providing such platform to budding player to explore their hidden talent in Cricket and added that Ladakhis youth possess enough potential to shine at national and international level. “Sports not only helps in keeping one healthy but it also play major role in unity among different regions,” he added.
The inaugural match was played between Tip Top Club-20 and United Latoo Kargil.
Opting to bat first, the Tip Top Club 20 scored 131 runs in 19.4 overs with Jigmet Kalon made highest 38 runs in 26 balls.
In reply, United Latoo Kargil managed to score 105 runs in 18.4 over with the help of Syed Iftikar who made 24 runs off 24 balls. Thus Tip Top Club 20 won the inaugural match by 26 run. Tundup Namgyal was judged as player on the match.
Earlier, presenting the welcome speech Sports and Culture Welfare Society Chushot President Tashi Zangpo said that this tournament is being organized to pay tribute to the brave Indian Army who fought the Kargil War in 1999 during which 527 soldiers were martyred and 1363 soldiers got injured while defending the motherland.
