JAMMU, Jan 9: The 3-day 11th J&K UT Handball Championship for senior men and women concluded at Shastri Nagar Play Field, here today. Organized by the J&K Handball Association (JKHA) in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, the tournament was played on a league-cum-knockout basis, featuring about 300 players from 12 JKHA units.
The closing ceremony was graced by Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, as chief guest, who presented winners and runners-up trophies along with individual awards. KD Bhagat, DySP HQ IR 14th Battalion, was the guest of honour. Addressing the gathering, Gul praised the UT’s sporting talent and emphasized the importance of nurturing players to excel at national and international levels.
In the men’s final, JKP edged past District Jammu by 23-21, while in the women’s section, District Jammu defeated District Udhampur by 10-5. The championship provided a platform for players across the region to showcase their skills and compete at the UT level.
JKHA President Ashwani Kumar Raina welcomed the guests and highlighted the association’s initiatives. Also present were Rajesh Chandan, Rajesh Kapoor, Sanjeev Jamwal, Sajjad Ahmed and former international player Sudhir Singh, among others. The championship concluded successfully, reflecting the growing interest and talent in handball across Jammu and Kashmir.
