JAMMU, Feb 24: The three-day long 10th J&K UT Handball Championship concluded today at the Playing Field, Shastri Nagar, Jammu, featuring senior men’s and women’s sections. The championship was organized by the J&K Handball Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council.
Yudhvir Sethi, MLA Jammu East, was the chief guest at the valedictory function, where he presented the winners and runners-up trophies, alongwith individual prizes. Abishek Mahajan, MD Rakesh Jewellers, Jammu was the guest of honour.
Sethi praised the sports talent in J&K, highlighting the achievements of local athletes at national and international levels and encouraged further nurturing of talent by the J&K Handball Association (JKHA). He congratulated the winners, runners-up, and all participating teams, lauding the sportsmanship exhibited during the final matches.
In the women’s final, District Jammu defeated District Udhampur by 7-2, with Harman Kour scoring 4 goals and Taniya Mehra adding 3 goals. In the men’s section, J&K Police won against District Jammu 24-15, with Harmik Singh netting 8 goals and Gautam Sharma scoring 6.
Among those present were Rajesh Chandan (General Secretary JKHA), Sanjeev Jamwal (Treasurer JKHA), Rajesh Kapoor (Vice President JKHA), Ravi Singh (Coach) and Vinay Sharma (Senior Handball Coach).
