SRINAGAR, Nov 24: Over a hundred women here today participated in Jhelum Women’s Cycle Rally, cycling 67 kms from Shaukat Ali Stadium in Baramulla to Kaman Setu in Uri to raise awareness about drug abuse.
Set against the lush greenery, 105 women cyclists competed in three age categories in the rally.
The event, in its fourth edition, was organized by the Indian Army’s Dagger Division in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department and district administration.
The chief guest, Maj Gen Paranvir Singh Punia, of Dagger Division and Baramulla Brigade Commander Brigadier Rajat Mohan Bhatt along with other civil and military dignitaries, attended the event.
Addressing the participants, Maj Gen Punia said: “This rally symbolizes the integration of the Army with the locals and underscores our efforts in promoting sports, education, and peace in the region.”
Senior Superintendent of Police Sopore, Divya, also lauded the initiative.
The event concluded with a vibrant cultural show at Kaman Aman Setu.
Popular Radio Baramulla RJs hosted the event with RJ Harleen describing it as “a program of the youth, by the youth, for the youth of Kashmir.”
