SRINAGAR: Fresh batches of yatris left Baltal and Nuwan Pahalgam base camps for holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where so far the number of yatris who have paid obeisance has crossed over 1.15 lakh, since the commencement of the 40-day-long yatra on June 29.
However, the pilgrim movement on Srinagar-Jammu national highway was suspended today for security reasons following strike called by the separatists on the first death anniversary of Burhan Wani of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). The weather is pleasant and fresh batches of devotees left Baltal and Pahalgam base camps early this morning for the holy cave, a yatra official said.
Hundreds of yatris, who had night halt at Panjtarni, left for cave shrine early this morning. Majority of them had paid obeisance at the cave this morning, while more pilgrims are on way from Panjtarni.
He said that till last night, 115841 pilgrims have paid obscene at the cave from the shortest Baltal and the traditional Pahalgam tracks, since June 29.
A fresh batch of pilgrims left towards the cave shrine from the shortest Baltal track early this morning, expected to reach the holy cave by this afternoon.
The devotees, who had night halt at cave shrine, are also on way back to the Baltal base camp, he added. The majority of worshippers, who prefer Pahalgam traditional route to the holy cave, are also returning through the shortest Baltal track, he said.
Meanwhile, a fresh batch of yatris left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional track. The pilgrims, who had night halt at Chandanwari and other halting stations, have also started their journey on foot towards the cave shrine since early this morning.
Meanwhile, no pilgrim will be allowed to leave from Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps to Jammu today. Similarly, yatra from Jammu to Baltal and Pahalgam base camps has also been suspended as precautionary measure.
