World Water Day celebrated with zeal, enthusiasm

JAMMU, Mar 22: World Water Day on the theme ‘Valuing Water’ was celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm.
Water Management Research Centre (AICRP-IWM) of SKUAST-Jammu under the leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof JP Sharma, celebrated World Water Day. The Centre organized series of activities simultaneously viz One Day SAMETI Training for Officials of Agriculture and Command Area Department, Kissan Ghoshti for farmers and Painting and Debate Competition for students. Dr JP Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu distributed prize among the winners of painting and debate competition. Dr AK Sharma, Chief Scientist and Dr Abhijit Samanta, Prof (Soils), addressed the farmers whereas the other scientists namely Dr Anuradha Saha and Dr Raj Kumar Gupta delivered their expert lectures.
Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre celebrated World Water Day by holding a seminar on theme “Valuing Water”. On this occasion, GS Jha, Chairperson, J&K Water Resources Regulatory Authority, Government of Jammu and Kashmir (UT) was the chief guest and Er Manesh Bhat, Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti Department, Jammu was the guest of honour. At the outset, Dr Sanjay Khar, Chairman, IEI, Jammu Centre presented the welcome address. Seven technical papers on the theme were presented by Er PK Nanda, Er BL Rawal, Er Vinod Kumar, Er Vijay Kumar Sharma, Er Ranjeev Sawhney, Er Sachin Tickoo and Er Mir Muneer Hussain. All the speakers advocated for conservation of water. Er Anil Verma, Former Secretary of Jammu Centre showed a video presentation to the audience for making people sensitive for doing rain water harvesting. Er CP Sharma, Secretary conducted the proceedings of the seminar and presented the vote of thanks.
On the occasion of the World Water Day with the theme “Valuing Water”, a visit to the orphanage Bal Niketan at Ved Mandir Ambphalla was organized by NCC Senior Wing Cadets of GGM Science College, Jammu under the guidance of Principal of the college Dr Ravender Tickoo and supervision of Associate NCC Officer Dr (Capt) Anjana Sharma, Department of Computer Science. Commanding Officer, 2 J&K Girls Battalion NCC Colonel Satwinder Singh also visited the orphanage along with the cadets. The cadets donated water bottles besides other daily need items.
Eco-Club of Government Degree College Sidhra under the patronage of Principal Dr Monika Sharma organized an Online Intra College Quiz Competition to commemorate World Water Day. The theme of the quiz competition was “Valuing Water” which is also the theme of this year’s Water Day. First position was secured by Mohammad Imran Mir and Waqar Ahmed, both students of BA Sem I of the college. Second position was secured by Muskan Gupta of BA Sem I. Danish Sultan Wani, Abid Sultan Wani, Jattin Parihar, all students of BA Sem I and Bal Krishan Nagotra, student of BCom Sem I shared the third position.
70 NCC Cadets of 2 J&K Girls Battalion, NCC of GCW Parade Jammu organized series of programme on the “World Water Day” on the theme “Valuing Water”. The programme started with oath ceremony which was followed by poem recitation, symposium and poster making. The programme was held under the supervision of Principal Dr SP Sarswat and ANO Lt Suman Lata and staff members of GCW Parade. A rally was also organized.
Department of Zoology Government Degree College Doda celebrated World Water Day under the theme “Value of Water beyond its price”. A symposium competition was organized to celebrate the event. The welcome address was presented by Dr Ajaz A Wani, Head Department of Zoology GDC Doda. Dr Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi, Principal of the College was also present.
World Water Day was celebrated by GCW Bhagwati Nagar. On this occasion, a poster making cum slogan writing on the theme “Valuing Water” followed by an awareness rally was organized. Principal of the college Prof Minnie Sharma flagged off the rally. Dr Mosmi Raina was organizer of the event.
Government NPS Ghreed celebrated World Water Day. During the programme, various events were organized to impart awareness among the students and the locals about the significance of potable water and to focus public attention on sustainable aquatic habitats. The teachers who crafted and carried out the celebrations effectively include Shobhna Charak, Neelam and Babby Billoria.
