UDHAMPUR, Oct 13: On the occasion of World Sight Day, today a free eye school screening camp was organized at Little Angels High School Udhampur and surgical camp for economical weaker patients was organized at Rotary Hospital Udhampur by Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital Udhampur and Rotary Club Udhampur.
The main objective of the camp was to create awareness regarding blindness and vision impairment. As per WHO data India has the largest blind population of the world. On this occasion 20 patients were operated free of cost by Dr Ankur Goel, Phaco & Vitreoretinal Surgeon & Dr Richa Muldiyar of Rotary Eye Hospital Udhampur.
The World Sight Day was initiated by Vision 2020 “The right to sight” in the year 2000. The vision 2020 is supported by WHO and International agency for prevention of blindness. This year theme of World Sight Day is “Stronger Together”. Dr Ankur Goel expresses the need for prevention of avoidable blindness in the service area.
The function was inaugurated by Pawan K. Gupta, MLA Udhampur in presence of Dr Chander Prakash (Chief Medical Officer Udhampur) and Rotary Club members of Udhampur. He addressed the audience and assured all sort of help to Rotary Eye Hospital Udhampur from district health authorities and district administrative to declare the avoidable blindness free.
The Rotary Eye Hospital Udhampur started hospital based community eye health programme with the objective to declare Udhampur as avoidable blindness free up to 2020.
The main function which was held in Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital Udhampur was attended by all members of Rotary Club Udhampur besides eminent citizens of Udhampur town. On this occasion D. N. Sharma member Rotary Club welcomed the guests and presented the significance of eye care. Dr Chander Prakash CMO Udhampur spoke the world sight day.
Members of Rotary Club who attended the function are D. N. Sharma, V. S. Raja, Rajeev Gupta, Col (retd) Hargovind Singh, Surjit Singh Sangral, Jasbir Singh, Manjeet Singh, Wazir Mohd Mir and Dr Meena Vasdev (Hospital Administrator) and other staff members.
