World Sickle Cell Anemia Day observed at SMGS Hospital

JAMMU, June 20: CSIR-IIIM, Jammu in collaboration with Department of Pediatrics, SMGS Hospital, Govt Medical College (GMC) Jammu, organized the Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness Program on the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day-2019.
Number of Sickle cell anemia affected children and their parents participated in this program. Drawing competition among the Sickle cell anemia affected children was conducted and prizes were distributed. All children with Sickle cell disease and their parents showed great enthusiasm and responded to make the event successful.
Professor Dr Sanjeev K. Digra, gave the brief account of various complications of this disease and how to prevent them. Dr Azer, Junior Resident, Department of Pediatrics, also delivered an awareness lecture.
Dr S D Sawant, scientist from IIIM Jammu, appraised about the CSIR’s National Mission program under the purview of CSIR-Sickle Cell Anaemia Mission Project, led by number of CSIR institutes. It was followed by a briefing on current activities related to research and development in IIIM.
Staff scientists from IIIM Dr Ajay Kumar, Dr Parvinder Pal Singh and Dr PL Sangwan actively participated in this program along with many research scholars of the institute. Dr Ashu Jamwal (Associate Prof), Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma (Associate Prof), Dr Mohd Razaq (Associate Prof), Dr Ajay Choudhary and all the Resident Doctors actively participated in this program.
Dr Preeti conducted the proceedings and Dr Harkirat delivered the vote of thanks.
