Work on bunkers going on at snail’s pace in Balakote

POONCH, Oct 17: Lives of border dwellers particularly who were living near the fence along LoC in Balakote tehsil of Sub Division Mendhar have become hell due to continuous shelling and indiscriminate firing from across the border by Pakistan.
Official sources said that Pakistan has been targeting civilian areas from across the border and a number of casualties take place in a routine but protective measures taken for the border people were being done at snail’s pace, they added.
Rural Development Department had sanctioned 135 bunkers for the protection of the people in Balakote but the construction has been going on only 58 bunkers sources said, adding out of that 27 bunkers have reached to the level of slab but no other work including electricity and other fittings were executed leaving them unable to use, while others were under construction which goes on with a very slow pace.
A local Zaheer Khan said that concrete bunkers were necessity of border people at this point of time when Pakistan was targeting civilian areas in its constant ceasefire violations. The villagers appealed to the Government that the construction work of the bunkers be speeded up for the larger interests of people living just close to LoC.
Meanwhile, Block Development Officer Balakote, Ibrar Mirza said that due to constant shelling from across the border the construction work was delayed. “We are committed to complete the construction work as early as possible so that the people affected due to border shelling could get a sigh of relief, he added.
