JAMMU, Aug 22: Agitated over `unnecessary diktats’ in the name of discipline, students of the Government College for Women, Parade today staged a strong protest demonstration against the college management and demanded immediate removal of the Principal.
Hundreds of students boycotted their classes and assembled in front of the college amidst raising of slogans against the Principal. They also blocked the main road thus completely disrupting the vehicular movement in Kachi Chawni area for more than two hours.
The protesting students were accusing the College Principal of using abusive language against them for not strictly adhering to the `dress code’. They also alleged that the male watchman on the college gate and some teachers used to pass derogatory remarks on them and they were being subjected to all this harassment on the name of discipline.
The trouble erupted this morning around 9 a.m as soon as the college opened when some students were stopped near the main gate for not strictly adhering to the dress code.  As some students resisted the alleged un-necessary harassment, some heated exchange of words took place with the watchman and a staff member.
