JAMMU, Apr 3: President West Pakistani refugees Labha Ram Gandhi has asked the refugees to be ready for along drawn battle for their rights as successive State and Central Governments betrayed them over the years.
Addressing a largely attended refugees rally at Swankha Morh near Vijaypur today he said it is unfortunate that after 65 years of our displacement we have not been given the citizenship rights in this State while the West Pak refugees who were settled in other parts of country rose to top positions and up to the level of Prime Ministers and Deputy Prime Ministers of the country.
He said that the successive Governments betrayed the refugees since 1947 and the condition of these hapless people have become pitiable since then. He made an appeal to Prime Minister to look into the problems of these hapless people who have been deprived of the right to vote and other fundamental rights granted under the Indian Constitution.
Gandhi said that taking the undue advantage of special status the successive governments refused the citizenship rights and a government job to them. He demanded that a special battalion in Indian Army and security forces be created for the recruitment of these refugees from the State as having no land to cultivate and other source of income they need to be given preference in Central government jobs he added.
