SRINAGAR, Mar 5: While condemning State Administration for using force on people in Srinagar city, National Conference general secretary and former Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar alleged that wave of repression has been let loose in the city by the ruling class.
In a press statement here the NC leader said that the use of brutal force on residents of Gojwara, Islamia School, Jamia Masjid, Rajouri Kadal, Nowhatta and Saraf Kadal by security forces/ police has let loose the reign of terror on the innocent people. They are being arrested and tortured.
“Such actions create hostility and restlessness among the people and the nature of repression and assault is highly condemnable and unacceptable. An innocent shopkeeper too, has been brutally assaulted and scores of youth have been rounded up, beaten up and intimidated. This will lead to an adverse situation where the youth would feel cornered and targeted”, Mr Sagar said.
The former Minister and MLA Khanyar said the Governor should probe this matter and issue instructions to relevant quarters to rein in those elements that are responsible for ruthlessly persecuting the common man. “Rather than bridging the gap with the youth, such actions will further push them away and send out a message of confrontation. Any repression of civilians is highly condemnable and unacceptable”, the NC general secretary added.
Mr Sagar and provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani also expressed concern for the victims of the devastating fire at Goni Khan in Srinagar and said timely and adequate compensation should be announced in favour of the victims. They also demanded the immediate rehabilitation of the victims.
