Water scarcity in Mendhar area

POONCH, May 11: Today when entire country is battling with the Corona virus epidemic, the Mendhar town and several other adjoining areas in this sub division are facing acute water shortage.
In this difficult time, the administration is trying its best to provide basic facilities to the public, but some employees of PHE department in the area are not caring for the orders of the administration, forcing public to come out on the roads to protest. Not only Mendhar town but several other villages in the area are facing water crisis for the last few weeks.
Residents of Ward No. 2 of Mendhar town, near old bus stand are up in arms against PHE Department staff, as they are being deprived of water supply for the last couple of days. During lockdown, they are facing more hardships due to water crisis.
Locals of the area alleged that they are not getting water supply for the last 10 days and concerned department is paying no heed towards this issue. They further alleged that the concerned staff is not performimng its duty and there is no supervision by the senior officials. The people sought atgention of the Executive Engineer PHE/ Jal Shakti Division Poonch into the matter.
Sources further said not only locailities within Mendhar town but several villages and Morhas like- Kottan, Galuta, Ari, Sangiot, Balakote, Lanjiot, Sandote, Harni, Deri Dabsi, Bhati Dhar, Morha Kallar, Bhera and Kalaban are facing acute water shortage. The DC Poonch and SDM Mendhar should also take cognizance of the matter.
Tehsildar Mendar, Dr Vikram Kumar when contacted said that he will take up the issue with the AEE, PHE Department Mendhar and Executuive Engineer, Poonch. The issue would be resolved shortly, he added.
