Wangyal convenes high level meeting regarding development of sports infra

LEH, July 30: CEC, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal today convened a meeting regarding sports infrastructure development in Leh district with Joint Secretary Ministry of Youth Affairs, Deptt. of Sports LS Singh, Director (Infra) Sports Authority of India Sanjiv Barawal, Under Secretary Deptt of Sports AK Singh, MLC Tsering Dorjay Lakrook, Deputy Chairman LAHDC Leh Tsering Sangdup, EC Agriculture Phuntsog Stanzin, EC Minority Mumtaz Hussain, DC/CEO, LAHDC Avny Lavasa, ADDC Moses Kunzang, Exn Construction Division Nissar Hussain and Exn R&B Tsering Angchok also attended the meeting.
Joint Secretary L.S. Singh and his team also visited the open stadium.
CEC welcomed Joint Secretary L.S Singh, Sanjiv Barawal and AK Singh with the traditional Khataks and talked about the remoteness of Ladakh region where people of this region has to face many difficulties due to hard climate conditions as compare to other regions of the State and country. CEC further read out all the ongoing sport infrastructure projects of Leh district and submitted memorandum requesting recognition of Ice-Hockey at national level as this is the winter sport of the region and has brought laurels to the country at international level by players from this very region. In lieu of recognition, players have to face challenges regarding funds as well as finding job opportunities to earn their livelihood.
In response, Joint Secretary Singh directed Sanjiv Barawal to complete the paper work and submit them with the Ice-Hockey Federation in Delhi and assure for recognition at the earliest possible.
Joint Secretary Singh suggested for inclusion and strengthening of Kabadi and Pro Kabadi sports which has greater scope for Ladakh and also demands less expensive equipments and large size fields unlike tennis and volleyball. He also suggested for including trainings for sports of Judo, Wushu, Taekwondo and Boxing which have good scope in future.
In response to CEC’s further request for construction of mini youth hostel, facilities for archery and athletics, completion of existing multipurpose hall, and construction of mini-stadium at all high and higher secondary school and at block levels, Jt Secretary Singh suggested for preparation of DPR related to multipurpose hall for extension.
MLC Tsering Dorjey highlighted the achievements and scope of games played in Ladakh like Ice Hockey, Archery, Marshal Arts, Long-run and football etc.
