Vedas And Women

Swami Ram Swarup

It is not a thunderous air in the sky,
That respect of women cannot be saved,
Such should be the punishment to the culprit,
Neither should live, nor die they.
Vedas throw light on both worldly and spiritual matters. As regards worldly matters, a king should rule over a country to protect the people and to enable them to spend a long, happy life without any fear. Secondly, in Vedic spiritualism, if we pray to God to protect us then He surely awards protection to the aspirant (Samved mantra 1458 refers).
However, due to lack of Vedic knowledge, public is far away from worldly as well as spiritual protection.
By law, Rulers are required to maintain an atmosphere of fear amongst criminals-rapists.
But due to our bad luck, at present laws and the rulers have failed completely to maintain their fear amongst criminals due to which, the rape cases are increasing day by day. Therefore, at this juncture, law and ruler, both are of no use.
Yajurved emphasis that not law alone but the fear of rulers who strictly implement the law should always be experienced in the heart of criminals.
Yajurved and Atharvaved strictly state that- if the public is debarred from getting justice then the King and his government are directly held responsible for the same and are declared sinners.
Until the rulers Impose murderous, destructive violence on the sinners including unchaste immoral sinners, then rape cases, dacoity, thefts and other sinful acts can’t be destroyed from roots, say Vedas.
Moreover, Atharvaved even stresses that such sinners should be beheaded. Infact law and order are non-alive and cannot act on the sinner themselves therefore, the sinners mostly are not afraid of law and order. On the other hand, rulers who impose the law and order on criminals are alive persons, so if the rulers impose law and order strictly and mercilessly on the sinners then the fear can be maintained amongst them and sinful acts can be destroyed from its roots.
In this regard, I would like to quote a real story from Rajasthan, told by my Respected Guruji that once the King of Rajasthan had a tour in public to know about their well-being. He stayed in a village.
Before the gathering of the people, Raja asked if anyone had any complaint, in return, a young man with folded hands told the King that a lady had killed his relative and she was habitual to threaten him daily, stating that no one had power to cause damage/harm to her.
The King immediately asked his soldiers to catch hold of lady and hang her on the branch of the tree and she was hanged. In this way, the man was given justice and the people got a lesson not to violate laws.
Due to the failure of law and order and the rulers who impose the same to control such crimes, the criminals have been encouraged to violate the honour and respect of women time and again. It’s a bitter truth according to our true literature like Valmiki Ramayan and Mahabharat that today’s adverse state of all our country-women, could not have occurred, had there been strong and effective law and order enforced by leaders as was done by ancient kings, who used to follow Vedic culture, wherein no scope to excuse/forgive the culprit existed.
Our leaders must realize that according to Vedic culture it is imperative for the rulers to ensure mental and physical security of their public. Infact, Vedas direct the kings (political leaders) to treat and nurse the public as their own children.
When the leaders will deal with public with such feelings of oneness, then surely, they will be sensitive towards public’s difficulties and problems.
VEDIC PUNISHMENT STARTS ABOVE THE AGE OF THREE YEARS
It is the law of land, made by the Government that juvenile offenders must not be punished severely but should be sent to reformatory homes instead of jails. It is very clear that the said views are advocated by human-beings. Now, we must know as to what does God say in this context in Vedas; wherein Atharvaved mantras 10/5/15-21 preach us to maintain celibacy, to get the knowledge so as to discharge our duties faithfully/honestly and to get long, happy life.
God preaches in Atharvaved mantra 10/5/22 that the punishment for such lustful offences, starts just after crossing the age of three years (that is, for the offenders who are characterless and fail to maintain celibacy.)
Unity wields divine strength. Hence, to counter and control the heinous crime of rape, each one of us shall have to unite to face the culprits bravely and simultaneously awaken the government so that the said serious problem is not ignored by the administrators as before.
It shall not be out of place to mention here that if public is made learned of Vedas then only will they acquire ability to control their senses and remain away from vices like sensuality, anger etc.
