Vohra writes to PMO for special dispensation for promotion to IAS

JAMMU, Feb 6: Governor, N.N. Vohra, has addressed the Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office, for seeking an urgent decision regarding the extension of the special dispensation to provide 50% promotion quota for induction into the All India Services for a further period of 5 years beyond December 31, 2013. in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Police Service (IPS) and the Indian Forest Service (IFS).
This special dispensation provides 50% quota for promotion to the three All India Services in Jammu and Kashmir as compared to 33 ¹/³ % in all other States. This dispensation has been extended from time to time and the last one came to an end on December 31, 2013.
Awaiting a decision on the extension of the special dispensation, the State Government’s proposal for determination of vacancies falling under the promotion quota for the year 2014 is also pending, the Raj Bhavan spokesperson added.
The Governor has also sought an early determination of the vacancies arising under the promotion quota in IAS for the years 2013 and 2014 so that the UPSC could be requested to convene a meeting of the Selection Committee accordingly. The induction into the service against the vacancies for the year 2012 has already been completed.
