SAMBA, Sept 10: Veterans’ mela was organised at Military Station, here today.
The mela was organized to felicitate veteran soldiers of Samba, Kathua districts by Gallant Sixth Battalion the JAT Regiment under Samba Brigade.
The mela was organized to interact with veterans who had given their youth in the service of the nation and to provide them a common platform to address their grievances.
Commander Samba Brigade felicitated the brave veterans and applauded their contribution in the service of the nation while on duty and their support to the civil society in all possible means.
This event was graced by many civil dignitaries like MLA Samba Dr Manyal, ADC Samba Pawan Kumar, SP Samba, Faizal Qureshi and Chairman of District Sainik Board Samba, Colonel Pathania (Retd).
During the interaction veterans were made aware of the various welfare schemes of Army. Copies of the updated Government notifications were translated in Hindi for the ease of understanding and were also distributed to them.
Several ex-servicemen reported irregularities in emoluments and arrears received by them at the time of retirement. Details of such financial irregularities were taken on the spot and with the assistance of representative of Zila Sainik Board actions were initiated on the spot to avoid any further delay.
Services of Tax Consultant, Life Insurance Corporation and DHFL (Prahi) were also made available to educate them for judicious investment of their hard earned money.
